Question
What does the Victims of Crime Program do?
  Answer
The program was enacted by the Nevada Legislature to provide assistance to innocent victims of crime. These benefits include medical, funeral, therapy counseling and associated monetary assistance for wage loss or other expenses.

Question
How long does it take to get help?
  Answer
A victim must apply by application. An interview is then conducted by a Compensation Officer who will determine if the victim is eligible. If the Compensation Officer approves the application, assistance would be provided as quickly as possible.

Question
Can the doctors come after me for payment?
  Answer
No. If a provider of services accepts payment from the Victims of Crime Progam, they must accept it as full and final payment for all services. Nevada law provides for this in statute to protect innocent victims of crime.

Question
How much assistance can I get?
  Answer
The program has a monetary case cap of $50,000 per victim that is set by State statute. A victim case can not exceed $50,000, however, there are limitations on some benefits. Currently, counseling expenses are limited to $3,500; funeral costs are limited to $2,500; and there is a maximum of $300 per week for lost wages.

Question
How do I apply for benefits
  Answer
You can obtain an application from the Victims of Crime Program in Las Vegas by calling 702 486-2740 or in Reno at 775 688-2900. Our offices are located at 2200 South Rancho Drive Suite 130, Las Vegas NV 89102 and 4600 Kietzke, Suite I-205, Reno NV 89502

Question
Does funding for the program come from my tax dollars?
  Answer
No. Funding for the program is provided through the courts from criminals who are assessed fines, fees and restitution. No taxpayer dollars fund this program.

Question
Can you help me with my rent and car payment?
  Answer
The program can provide monetary assistance for lost wages if you are unable to work due to the crime.

Question
What do I need to bring to the interview?
  Answer
You should bring any insurance information, medical bills, earning statement for proof of income, and a record of your monthly living expenses (copies of mortgage, rent, power, telephone etc.) as these things assist the Compensation Officer in helping you.

Question
What do I do if I need further medical treatment or counseling?
  Answer
Contact the Compensation Officer in charge of your case and he/she will provide direction for you.

Question
Is there an income limit to qualify for help?
  Answer
No, however, the victims program is a payer of last resort. That means that after all other insurance, Medicaid or other assistance is exhausted; the program can provide financial assistance.
